Teen Acne: Causes, Effective Treatment and Preventive Tips

Acne is a common problem for teenagers. Acne pops up on the face when an only substance, called sebum, gets clogged into the pores. Pimples can pop up on the face, chest, shoulders, and back. Though acne is not a serious health risk, it can potentially damage the self-esteem of the teens. It leaves permanent marks on the face, damaging the skin.

Acne can appear in different shapes on the different parts of the party. Acne can occur as a whitehead, blackheads, papules, pustules, or nodules.

Cause of the Acne: Why Does Acne Happen to Only Some People?

It is not clear why acne appears on the faces of some people. Androgen hormones are said to play an active role in causing acne. The levels of the androgen hormones increase in the body of the girls and body during the puberty period. Androgen causes an increase in the oil glands, which create more sebum. Androgen number also gets increased due to the problems of the hormonal changes.

Genetics also matters when it comes to the occurrence of acne. If your parents had it, it becomes likely that you would inherit the same tendency. Some medications also tend to cause acne in teenagers.

Cosmetic products, that are oil-based, also clog the pores and cause the acne.

Other causes of acne are the following:

  • It may occur due to the friction that is caused by rubbing or scrubbing of the skin.
  • Acne pops up instantly when blemishes are squeezed or picked up.
  • Pressure from the backpacks, tight collars, and bike helmets cause the acne.
  • Stress levels also result in acne.
  • PCOS and changing hormone levels are the leading cause of acne in adolescent girls and boys.

Effective Treatment of the Acne

Dermatologists treat the acne when it reaches its severe forms. Otherwise, general practitioners, internists, or pediatricians can also treat the milder forms of the acne.

There are four types of treatments available for acne. They are given below:

  • Nonprescription Topical Treatment:

These are not medication, but products that you use on the skin. These include benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur, and ascetic acid. They are available in different forms such as lotion, gel, soaps, pads, creams, etc.

  • Prescription Topical Treatment:

This is the treatment that includes the usage of antibiotics and other pills for correcting the acne problem.

  • Prescription Oral Drug Treatment:

People, who are affected by moderate to severe acne, often are given the oral (pills) to treat the acne.

  • In-Office Treatments:

This treatment includes the injections, which heal the patient of the acne problem forever.

Preventive Tips for Acne

  • Acne does not occur due to the dirt or impure particle. Rather, it is caused when people rub their faces hard. So, avoid over-washing or rubbing the face hard with face washes or other facial products.
  • You must never touch the blemishes. Otherwise, they will pop into big pimples on your face.

You must not allow the acne to define your facial beauty. You should take every step to prevent it, and cure it. You are naturally beautiful, and you must always look naturally beautiful.
